Most Overlooked Areas in an Office to Clean

Businesses in the greater Shelby and Jefferson county areas of Alabama typically have an office building cleaning regimen that covers carpets, restrooms, desks, floors, doorknobs, tables, and chairs, among other things. However, there are still many important spaces that we neglect or forget to clean. These, then, become the breeding ground for many harmful bacteria and germs.

Let us take a look at some of these overlooked areas.

Ducts, Vents, and Baseboards

We are sure that just the name would have made you realize that you have not cleaned them for a long time. You can thank us for reminding you!

The ducts and vents can impact the quality of the air that you and your employees breathe. If they have not been cleaned in a while, you could be inhaling contaminated air. Clean air ducts even impact the amount of dust throughout the facility. Before the problem escalates, vacuum the vents and wash those vent covers. Change your intake filters regularly.

Oh, and don’t forget the baseboards. Kneel and take a look at them—you will be surprised by the amount of dirt and grime they are covered in. Clean them with a wet cloth and wipe them off with a dry one.

Curtains and Blinds

Because curtains and blinds are closest to the windows, they collect a lot of dust and dirt. While many of us clean our windows, we often overlook the curtains and blinds.

You may be surprised at how much dust those curtains are housing when you clean them and see their original color.

Both vacuuming and steam cleaning will do the job. But you also have the option of sending your office curtains out to be dry cleaned.

Blinds [if they are vinyl or aluminum] can be washed, or you can simply clean the dust with a duster or a vacuum cleaner.

Light Fixtures and Ceiling Fans

Again, because they are out of sight, we forget to clean them. Due to this, both light fixtures and ceiling fans get covered with layers of dust. The dust can even make the light seem dimmer.

Therefore, include them in your weekly cleaning routine. Before cleaning, make sure to switch them off.

Then, wipe off the dust with a cloth. Remove the fixture cover and clean the light thoroughly. Replace the covers, and you are done!

Walls

Walls collect a lot of dust and stains over time. While we clean the tables and chairs adjacent to them, we forget to clean the walls. Because we all unwittingly touch the walls when walking or climbing the stairs, they must be cleaned.

Cleaning the walls is not a tiresome task. All you need is a gentle detergent (try Murphy’s Oil diluted in warm water) and a nonabrasive sponge or cloth. Wipe them down, and fingerprints, stains, and dust will vanish.

There you have it! If you include all these spots in your cleaning routine, you and your employees will not have to take sick leaves frequently.
